NEW POINT SYSTEM POINTS BREAKDOWN
What techniques will score points in NAS Extreme’s rulebook? The emphasis is on the degree of difficulty to execute and the spectacular.
Three-Point Techniques
Any circular spinning or jumping kick will be awarded three points. Kicking techniques need to come in front or side of opponent’s face and meet the required distance of five to 10 centimetres. If the opponent doesn’t make an attempt to block or evade, points will be scored.
Two-Point Techniques
Kicks directed to the head, take-downs and follow up technique or spinning kicks to the body area will score two points. This includes upper kicks (with upper defined as the face, head and neck area).
Takedowns comprise throwing techniques including trapping opponent’s leg and tripping, which must be controlled and followed up with a legal hand technique.
For reason of safety, throws where the opponent is thrown without being held onto, thrown dangerously or where the pivot point is above hip level, are prohibited and will incur a warning or penalty or possible disqualification. Exceptions are conventional karate leg sweeping techniques which do not require the opponent to be held while executing the sweep. A competitor who takes another competitor down can score on the opponent within three seconds before the referee intervenes and stops the match.
One-Point Techniques
Kicks to the torso above the belt, including the front, side and back to shoulder height, will be awarded a single point.
Punches to the head, including the face, side, forehead, neck and back of head, will be awarded a single point.
Combination hand techniques will score one point.
Unbalancing the opponent and scoring with a hand technique will score one point.
TIME LIMITS
A two-minute time limit will apply to all elimination bouts. A three-minute time limit applies to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place bouts. To win, a combatant must obtain an eight point clear margin, win the most points by the end of the bout or be the first competitor to reach 15 points.
